More Vista

There's a review that sounds hopeful after the author got a chance to look at the beta version of Windows Vista. Nothing sounded too terribly exciting to me.

• I like the ideas behind a better interface for various things including Explorer. As I've already posted, IE7 looks like crap. They are only upgrading enough to keep your average user from switching to Firefox or Opera, instead of creating a quality browser.

• I'm not sure I like the Virtual Folders. I guess I will have to see how they are implemented, but I think I would prefer to have complete control over my documents.

• I hate the monstrosities that are the navigation icons for folders, although I'm sure this can be changed. I just do not understand why Microsoft chooses such terrible interfaces to show people. Do they think the people who care about operating system betas have terrible eyesight?

So there are a bunch of minor interface changes. It is going to take more than some interface improvements to Explorer to make me want to change OS's.
